I first met George on the alternative comedy circuit over thirty years ago , he was then, and remained, the funniest of men, both a brilliant performer and an outstanding comedy writer. George's comedy was never cruel or vicious, his humour celebrated the absurd, frequently undercutting pomposity and vanity , and always full of warmth. Amongst comedy writers, George's ability to pitch an idea for sketch in a writer's room was legendary. No one did it better. I worked with George on The Armstrong and Miller Show, Big Train, Star Stories, Pete v Life and The Winsdors. He was a kind gentle man, an original comedy talent, who spent his career making people laugh. No better way to spend a life. I will miss him.
